The Fine Art of Listening |
How many times have you heard the phrase "you did not hear what I said?" I heard it often from my parents during my adolescent days.
Listening in my adult age means the difference between making a sale and NOT making a sale.
What is "active listening?" It is the difference between just hearing what someone said vs. validating a speaker's viewpoint and repeating it back. This simple step is a very powerful tool that conveys our interest and attention to a prospective customer's needs.
How can we actively listen?
- Avoid distractions; e.g. cell phones, other conversations, emails, etc.
- Stay focused on what the speaker is saying. Watch intently and look the speaker in the eye.
- Repeat what you thought the speaker said to him/her. Ask for clarification on any particular point that you may be unclear.
- Take personal notes. Whether in a classroom setting or a personal onn-on-one meeting, make notes in a booklet or on the back of a business card.
- Ask the speaker how you can be a referral source to them (see 1 Peter 4:10). This is probably the strongest question you can ask as it develops creative dialogue and instantly bonds the speaker to you.

Fusion Marketing |
|
Is the term fusion marketing new to you? Once I explain below, I bet you will say, "I knew that."
Fusion marketing is the creation of a relationship with one or more complentary partner companies that can serve each other as referral sources. An example from Al Lautenslager in his article on the website www.entrepreneur.com is when he went into his favorite laundry cleaners shop and discovered a discount coupon for a pizza. The pizza shop happened to be located in the same shopping center. Craving a pizza, Lautenslager walked a few doors down to purchase his pizza and noticed a discount coupon for the laundry/cleaners he just left. The two firms were using each other to create valuable traffic to their respective shops.
The following are six (6) steps to form a fustion marketing partnerships.
Make a list of the ideal and complementary candidates for your business. For me as a mortgage lender, my natural fusion marketing partners might be a title company, home inspector, landscape designer, real estate agent, etc. I think you get the picture.
-
Before your meeting with your first fustion marketing candidate, define what each partner can offer the other.
-
Schedule a face-to-face meeting with your fusion marketing partner and outline a semi-formal agreement and condence the agreement to writing.
-
NOW...bundle the package in the form of a website, mass marketing, press releases, business announcements, etc.
-
Between the two (or more) partners, combine the mailing list and use a bulk mailing service to promote the new venture.
-
Respond super fast to all inquiries and let the inquirer know how much you value their contact.
-
FOLLOW UP...he shouted! Never miss an opportunity because you did not follow up on a prospect lead.
Now you can say "I knew that."
With Joe Stiles as your mortgage lender, you always get more...7 good ideas for the price of 6!
Let me hear from any who have taken advantage of a new fusion marketing opportunity.

What the World Needs Now... |
|
My next crusade is:
PATRIOTISM
(emphasis added)
Help me answer some very important questions:
-
Why are we timid to be bold in our patriotism these days?
-
Why are we soooo politically correct when America is where our freedoms were born?
-
Why aren't we bolder in paying homage to those who have paid with their lives for our freedoms we enjoy?
To get get a perspective of the human sacrafice for our freedoms, take a stroll through Veterans Memorial Cemetary just off Beltway 8, North. While there, you will see the real sacrafice of those that went before us...in the name of freedom.
Do something extra special today for our military members because they volunteered to serve us and to protect our personal freedoms. As a USAF veteran myself, I could not be more proud of our military men and women serving today.
Why not send a goodie box filled with heavy duty socks, deodarant, powder, lip balm, etc. (nothing perishable, please) along with a note of encouragement and support?
Enjoy this website link:
Over the past several months, you read about my pet peeves and what changes I will make in my first acts as the Grand Poobah of the United States of America:
"Yea and Naw" (March 2008)
Opening/holding the door for others (February 2008)
Men...take your hat off in a building in a building (January 2008)
"Have a nice day" (December 2007)
"Sorry about that" and "my bad" (November 2007) What is your first edict as Grand Poobah of the United States of America?

MY CLOSING THOUGHTS:
