GOAL SETTING FOR 2008 |
|
The 10 requirements for setting
SUCCESSFUL goals are:
- Goals must be written. Write your goals on your daily calendar and spend time focusing on your activities that lead to the accomplishment of your goal.
- Goals must be specific. Not only do you want to list your goals, but you should also list why and how towards the achievement of the goals.
- Goals must have deadlines. Without a dealine, the game can continue endlessly. In 1960, President Kennedy committed America to putting a man on the moon before the end of the decade. Now that is a goal.
- Goals must be personal. Focus your goal setting efforts on your personal goals, not on what you think others want from you.
- Goals must be both short-term and long-term. Short term goals are the foundation (building blocks) for the longer term goals. Take careful time to set the foundation in place well.
- Goals must be bold. Surprise yourself by putting your most difficult goal on your 2008 list and then assess who might be a complement to you in order to achieve that particular goal.
- Goals must be possible. Hitting a homerun for a little leaguer in the major league park is not possible. Be realistic with your goals.
- Goals must not be greedy. Share your success with others that helped you along the way. Most goals are not achieved by a single individual.
- Goals must be positive. Your attitude can directly affect the achievement of your goals. Set positive goals with a positive attitude and watch out for record achievements.
- Goals must be plenttiful. Set multiple goals; e.g. personal, professional, spiritual, family, travel, etc.
- Goals setting must be an on-going process. Once a goal is set and achieved, set another and another and another. Keep stretching yourself.
- Share your goals with a close friend. By sharing your goals with a friend, you will tend to work harder because you know he/she is holding you accountable.

METHODS OF ID THEFT |
|
If you have been a victim of ID theft, please let me hear from you on how you discovered the theft and what steps you took to clear the matter.
Thieves have proven to be cleaver in the steps they take to steal our personal identification. Here are some of the common methods:
-
DUMPSTER DIVING - This is exactly as it sounds, thieves often search our trash for the infamous blank check credit cards are known to send in our monthly invoices.
-
SKIMMING - This process involved certain technology (storage) devices are used to steal our debit /credit card numbers. If you see a device attached to the exterior of an ATM machine, go to another machine as it could be a skimming device.
-
PHISHING - How many daily emails do we get from seemingly legitimate financial institutions that allege the security on our accounts has be compromised? If you are like me, just about a dozen a day of these phishing emails.
-
CHANGE OF ADDRESS - Thieves can submit a USPS Change of Address form to divert your mail to another address. In this manner, the thieves have all the information they need to cause havoc on our credit and ID. My suggestion is to get to know your postal delivery person...well, so he will know you...well.
-
STEALING - wallet/purse stealing is on the increase. Do not leave wallets and purses in view of others, especially in your automobile. Be ever alert of the information you may carry in your automobile's glove box. Clean it out before your car is stolen.

MULTIPLE TRANSACTIONS FROM A SINGLE SOUCE |
Are you getting all the referrals you want ?
No? What are you willing to do to obtain more referrals? Are you willing to stand up in front of a group and share your knowledge?
The fear of speaking in public is often thought of as a life or death experience for many.
According to 1 Peter 4:10 and Proverbs 11:25, we all have certain talents and special gifts and we are to use those to serve others.
If I could promise you a source of obtaining multiple transactions from a single souce, what would you be willing to do? Would you be willing to stand in front of a group and share your knowledge and expertise? Your special gift and knowledge does not have to be work related. Perhaps it is hobby related or any other special interests.
Over my mortgage career, I am fortunate to have developed the confidence of speaking in public. From that experience, I developed about a dozen public-interest programs that I take into local companies, networking groups, trade associations and civic associations. These dozen programs are generic in nature (not a JOE STILES sales pitch) and are designed to be interactive and fun...as well as informative.
If you would like more information on any of these programs for your company and/or organization, let me hear from you.

OUT OF THE MOUTHS OF BABES |
|
This particular ariticle has proven to be a popular feature in the newsletter. I am glad to continue the article for this month.
Please share your babe's cute quotes.
A Sunday school class was studying the Ten Commandments. They were ready to discuss the last one. The teacher asked if anyone could tell her what it was. Susie raised her hand, stood tall, and quoted, "Thou shall not take the covers off thy neighbor's wife."
Six-year-old Angie and her four-year-old brother Joel were sitting together in church. Joel giggled, sang, and talked out loud. Finally, his big sister had had enough. "You're not supposed to talk out loud in church." "Why? Who's going to stop me?" Joel asked. Angie pointed to the back of the church and said, "See those two men standing by the door? They're hushers."
When my grandson, Billy, and I entered our vacation cabin, we kept the lights off until we were inside to keep from attracting pesky insects. Still, a few fireflies followed us in. Noticing them before I did, Billy whispered, "It's no use, Grandpa. The mosquitoes are coming after us with flashlights."
Another three-year old put his shoes on by himself. His mother noticed the left was on the right foot. She said, "Son, your shoes are on the wrong feet." He looked up at her with a raised brow and said, "Don't kid me, Mom. I KNOW they're my feet.
A father was reading Bible stories to his young son. He read, "The man named Lot was warned to take his wife and flee out of the city, but his wife looked back and was turned to salt." His son asked, "What happened to the flea?"
A ten-year-old, under the tutelage of her grandmother, was becoming quite knowledgeable about the Bible. Then one day she floored her grandmother by asking, "Which Virgin was the mother of Jesus: the Virgin Mary or the King James Virgin?"

WHAT THE WORLD NEEDS NOW... |
|
Over the past four months, you read about my pet peaves and how I will make changes in my first acts as the Grand Poobah of the United States of America:
Opening/holding the door for others. Being considerate of those following behind you as you enter or leave a building is contagious. Share it with others.
Men...take your hat off in a building. Don't you remember what your mother taught you about removing your hat in a building, men? What are you waiting for...just DO IT!
Have a nice day Eliminate from our vocabulary this trite phrase. In substituting this phrase, I propose "thank you for your business" or "thank you for choosing (your company name)" or "please call (or visit) us again."
Sorry about that and my bad Erase from our vocabulary these slang terms. I propose the use of a simple, "please excuse me" or "please accept my apologies," I hear people resort to these classless slang terms to (feebly) excuse themselves. We can do much better
My next crusade is:
"Yea" and "Naw"
When we speak to each other, our elders deserve our respect of being addressed with YES SIR or NO SIR. The same is true for responding to females. When speaking to a person of our age, a simple YES or NO is the most pleasant manner to respond. It is up to us to teach our children the fine art of responding well and not so casually.
What is your first edict as Grand Poobah of the United States of America?

MY CLOSING THOUGHTS:
1 Peter 4:10 is the foundation of my mortgage lending practice. I urge everyone to read this important Bible scripture and apply it to their lives and those lives we touch every day. You will be absolutely amazed at the results...I promise!
